Go Gives Back - Hurricane Sandy

About a month or so ago we received a Facebook message from one of our fans. Carolynn Ozar-Diakon, a Realtor with Resources Real Estate, a real estate company located in an area in New Jersey that was heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Carolynn reached out to Go to see if we would be able to assist with helping a local area contractor get back on his feet. Along with the contents of his home, his power tools were destroyed.

Go decided to lend a hand but we decided to wait until Movember and our Angel Tree project wrapped up in order to fully focus on Brad, Robin, and their family.

A little bit about their family -

Brad and Robin met while working together at Costco back in 1994, married two years later - then they bought their first home in Union Beach and planned to start a family. Robin says "The day of closing we were contacted just hours before to be informed that we would have to obtain a flood insurance policy and like most young couples just starting out, we scrambled to do what was required to still have our closing on our dream house- cashing in everything, even our Christmas club bank accounts to make it happen. Back then we never imagined that we would be having to put a claim in on that policy and we opted for the lower premium, the one we could afford, which at the time we didn't realize did not include the "contents" of our home".

When children came, they had long forgotten their flood insurance needs, their first child a daughter Mackenzie, now 12 was diagnosed with Autism at 21/2 years old. Their next child Brady was born with breathing problems. They never accepted defeat and raised their kids to work hard and expect the best for themselves. Robin speaks proudly of her children
"We have been blessed with amazing, talented, intelligent and compassionate children. Their marking period after marking period wowed us with their high honor roll grades, awards for citizenship and accolades from the community.   Both are involved in Scouting, Brady will be crossing over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and Mak is Girl Scout Cadet.
One of their very favorite things to do is "sparks"which are random acts of kindness. We try to do at least one Spark a day but usually accomplish many more!"

Unfortunately the day came, when Super Storm Sandy blew into town wiping out the contents as well as the interior of their home. Brad had been laid off from a HVAC job three years before in the economic downturn and had picked up odd jobs to help stay on track. After a few years of bad economy and good reviews of his services he started Oceanic Home Repair and began his small business to achieve the American Dream of a business owner. Everybody has only the highest respect for his worth ethic, his honesty and his helpful and sunny personality.

Their home along with his shed, where he kept his power tools flooded. Unfortunately, the contents of his house and shed were not insured. The water reached as high as 53" in their home, wiping out cherished family photos and other irreplaceable memory objects.
