Inbox Zero - Step 6 - To Do Folder

to do

There are going to be some emails that require action that can't be knocked out immediately.  Maybe you need to compose a thoughtful answer, maybe you need to do something before you reply, or maybe you just need to add an appointment to your calendar before you delete it.  Whatever the reason, rather than let it pile up in your inbox, put it in a folder!

And you know me well enough by now...we will title our folder "- To Do".  Why dash space???  This way it will float to the TOP of your list of folders.  Someone decided that a dash comes before abc, which is handy when you are trying to make something stand out that is sorted by a computer.

Congratulations...you have now touched all the key concepts of InBox zero!  You know how to deal with any email that comes your way...delete, do, delegate, defer.  And you have a few (just a few!) folders set up to help you with this:

  • - To Do

  • Keep

  • Z - News & Updates

  • Z - Old Stuff

I've added another one recently for faxes, just to be sure they don't get lost in the shuffle.  But really, any more than these and you will spend more time organizing your emails that living your life.

Savor inbox zero.  Once you get there you will know what I mean.  The next six steps will be to help you maintain your focus and continue to refine your approach.  But even right now, I can tell you guys are starting to get it.  Congratulations!
