Who is Jim Garman? Part 1

I am Jim Garman. I am 33 years old. And I am the luckiest guy in the world. This is my family.

Katie, my wife of 8 years, is a GI Physician at Duke.  She is an amazing mom and an ideal doctor.  She is my sunshine.

Our little girl is named Ellie.  We call her "the peach."  Her head was fuzzy like a peach for the first year of her life.  And now that her hair is coming in, she has a striking white highlight...yes natural!

We live in Durham.  We love the Triangle.  I am originally from Indiana and Katie is from New York.  We met the second week of freshman year at Yale.  Fifteen years ago now.  We've been in the Triangle for over 10 years and we will never leave.

Over the course of 3-4 upcoming blog entries I'll share with you a bit of my background and what makes me tick.  For now, just know that I strongly believe that all business is personal.

Do you remember the scene in "You've Got Mail" where Joe Fox explains that putting Kathleen Kelly's bookstore out of business wasn't personal?  That conversation inspires me.  Kathleen Kelly replies, "Not personal?  What does that mean?  All that means is that it wasn't personal TO YOU.  It was personal to me."

She's right.  For those of us who love our jobs, business is personal.  Real estate even more so.  I build companies with passionate people that take business personally.  I can't extract who I am from my business and I don't want you to either.
